The SIP Return Formula
A SIP grows by monthly compounding. The formula is: Future Value = P × ((1 + i)^n − 1) ÷ i × (1 + i), where P is the monthly investment, i is the monthly return rate (yearly return ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n is the total number of months. Because each instalment earns returns for a different length of time, the growth speeds up in later years — that is the power of compounding.
Invest ₹5,000 every month for 10 years at an assumed 12% yearly return. You invest ₹6,00,000 in total. The SIP return calculator gives an estimated total value of about ₹11,61,695 — roughly ₹5,61,695 of returns on top of your ₹6,00,000. Change any number and the result updates instantly.
What Is a SIP?
A Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) is a way to invest a fixed amount in a mutual fund every month instead of investing one large sum at once. It suits salaried investors because the amount is small and regular, and market ups and downs average out over time. The Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) publishes investor education material on how SIPs work — read it before choosing a fund.
The returns shown are estimates based on the rate you enter. Mutual fund returns are market-linked and never assured. Past performance does not guarantee future results, and this tool is not investment advice.
Frequently asked questions
What return percentage should I enter?
Long-term Indian equity funds have often returned around 12% a year over long periods, but that is history, not a promise. Try 8%, 10% and 12% to see a cautious, middle and optimistic picture.
Is a SIP better than a one-time lump sum?
Neither is always better. A SIP spreads risk over time and fits a monthly salary; a lump sum invested at a market low can earn more, but timing the market is hard. This SIP return calculator is for monthly investing.
Does the SIP return calculator include tax?
No. Tax on mutual fund gains depends on the fund type, holding period and current rules, which change. Treat the result as pre-tax.
Is my investment data stored?
No. The calculation happens on your device only.
